Continuing Effective Diagnosis And Research Into Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome
EDM number 124 in 2000-01, proposed by Hilton Dawson on 19/12/2000.
That this House expresses utter sympathy with those who suffer from Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a group of heritable disorders of connective tissue which can be profoundly disabling and life-threatening; recognises the distress that misdiagnosis over many years can cause; shares the hopes of thousands that research on gene mutations will ultimately lead to treatment; deplores the impending closure of Professor Mike Pope's MRC Connective Tissues Genetic Group at the Institute of Medical Genetics, Cardiff; and calls upon the Government to offer proper funding for this essential work as a matter of urgency.
