National Rail Enquiry Service (No. 2)

EDM number 107 in 2000-01, proposed by Linda Gilroy on 13/12/2000.

That this House notes that the staff of the National Rail Enquiries Service based in offices in Plymouth, Cardiff, Newcastle, Derby, Dundee and Southampton currently answer one of the busiest phone numbers in the country and collect, collate and redistribute revised, re-revised and re-re-revised schedules; acknowledges that their current task in drawing on constantly changing manual, as well as computer-based information, to reply to travellers' enquiries is a significant daily challenge; congratulates them on doing a good job, which can only be as accurate as the information available to them at the time; regrets that the information provided to them is sometimes inaccurate and totally different from information provided by individual train companies and hopes that they and the travelling public will soon have more certainty, as well as safety, restored to travelling arrangements.

This motion has been signed by a total of 54 MPs.
