Pilkington Optronics And Astute Submarines

That this House welcomes the recent selection of Pilkington Optronics to supply three Astute submarines with masts and visual systems, ensuring that the new submarines for the Royal Navy will have the world's most advanced capability; congratulates the company on the success of its private venture investment in research and development for the new technology to defeat overseas competition; notes that the work provides a platform for future export efforts and underpins the future of the skilled workforce in Glasgow, St Asaph and Staines; appreciates the confidence shown by the Ministry of Defence in pioneering hi-tech British firms; and praises the innovative quality work and commitment of the Pilkington Optronics workforce.
