Minimum Wage And Young Workers

EDM number 934 in 1999-00, proposed by Alan Simpson on 05/07/2000.

That this House welcomes the Government's delivery of a national minimum wage as a major step forward in the fight against poverty pay, but regrets the decision to pay a lower rate to young workers and to exclude 16 and 17 year olds altogether; and urges the Government to extend the adult rate to all workers from the age of 18 and bring in a young workers rate for 16 and 17 year olds, so as to prevent the exploitation of young workers.

This motion has been signed by a total of 56 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
