Farrowing Crates
EDM number 852 in 1999-00, proposed by Alan Meale on 14/06/2000.
That this House is concerned about the welfare of pigs raised in indoor intensive units in the United Kingdom; is aware that currently more than half a million breeding sows are being intensively farmed in Britain, many of which are subjected to pain and severe stress caused by the use of farrowing crates which severely restrict their movement during pregnancy; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to take immediate action to ban the use of farrowing crates in pig production and to bring forward measures to improve the welfare of animals involved in intensive food production.
This motion has been signed by a total of 49 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
