Lasik Technique
EDM number 836 in 1999-00, proposed by Howard Stoate on 12/06/2000.
That this House calls upon the Government to instigate, as a matter of urgency, a full medical review of the Lasik Technique used to correct sight impediments through laser surgery, and the procedural guidelines governing it, given the increasing body of medical evidence which suggests that it causes long-term damage to the cornea, including the partial erosion of tissue and in some cases its eventual dislodgement; and further believes that all patients undergoing the operations should be made fully aware of the potential health risk of such a procedure.
