London Borough Of Redbridge
EDM number 827 in 1999-00, proposed by Mike Gapes on 08/06/2000.
That this House congratulates Councillor Muhammad Javed and the Labour Group on their election to the leadership of Redbridge Council; notes that this follows the resignation of the previous Conservative administration which will not go into opposition; draws attention to the strange and destructive posturing of the small Liberal Democrat Group in Redbridge, whose frequent changes of position included initial support for a Tory budget, then voting for a Tory council leadership, then voting for some Labour committee chairs, and now, when they have failed to get their own way, boycotting committee meetings; and believes that this shows how Liberal Democrats are unfit to be in government, that Conservatives cannot stand the heat and that only Labour is prepared to take responsibility.
