Unequal Pay Between Men And Women
EDM number 822 in 1999-00, proposed by Michael Clapham on 08/06/2000.
That this House welcomes the latest report from the TUC, Campaigning to Close the Gap, which marks the 30th anniversary of the Equal Pay Act, which heralded major changes in women's pay, but recognises that the pay gap remains unacceptably large, despite the Government's commitment to tackle inequality by measures such as the minimum wage, tax credits and a national child care strategy, with women in full-time work earning around 80p for every ú1 earned by a male in full-time work; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to take further positive action to end the continuing unfairness of unequal pay.
