RAILTRACK'S PAYMENTS FOR PR
EDM number 81 in 1999-00, proposed by Gordon Marsden on 23/11/1999.
That this House is amazed at press reports that Railtrack are preparing to pay up to ú200,000 a year for a new head of public relations; notes that this is more than double what the Prime Minister's spokesman will receive next year; believes that it shows an extraordinary cavalier judgment on public sensitivities in this area; and reminds Railtrack that the best public relations investment is in improved safety and infrastructure rather than in a spindoctor to disguise their current deficiencies.
