Future Of The Peerage
EDM number 809 in 1999-00, proposed by Tony Wright on 07/06/2000.
That this House notes the recommendation in the Report of the Royal Commission on the Reform of the House of Lords that membership of the second chamber should be separated from the honours system; believes that this recommendation should be implemented forthwith, including appointments to the transitional chamber; further believes that the end of a house of peers removes any basis for the continuance of the peerage; and therefore calls upon the Prime Minister not to recommend any future creations.
This motion has been signed by a total of 10 MPs.
