Sale Of Live Animals
EDM number 766 in 1999-00, proposed by Kerry Pollard on 22/05/2000.
That this House condemns the company Focus Do-It-All for selling live animals in their do-it-yourself stores through their in-store Petworld outlets; regrets the concept of trading in live animals; believes that the purchase of an animal requires a pre-conceived idea and planning more appropriately carried out at an animal re-homing centre with dedicated and informed staff; regrets the fact that there are already thousands of unwanted animals requiring re-homing as a result of whim-buying encouraged by such stores; and urges the Government to legislate to prevent the opening of such stores.
