Immunisation Against Tuberculosis In Schools
EDM number 758 in 1999-00, proposed by Colin Breed on 18/05/2000.
That this House notes that, for a number of months, supplies of the BCG vaccine have been limited, forcing some local authorities to suspend vaccination programmes in schools; further notes that at a time of resurgence in the number of cases of tuberculosis world-wide the continuation of such a programme of immunisation is of paramount importance; and therefore calls upon the Government to investigate fully how such a shortage arose, and to identify, as soon as possible, an additional supplier of the BCG vaccine to allow the earliest possible reinstatement of the immunisation scheme in schools and to safeguard the nation against further suspension of such schemes.
