That this House congratulates the Government on its decision to award the contract to the METEOR missile offered by Matra BAe Dynamics for the new Eurofighter aircraft and for selecting the European collaborative aircraft A400M to provide new air transport for Britain's armed forces; notes the significant positive impact this will have on employment in the North West, creating or sustaining thousands of high-skill, high wage jobs across the country; and calls on the Government to encourage its European counterparts in the Airbus consortium to follow the lead of the British Government and commit themselves to the A400M aircraft.
