Regulation And Training Of Nurses And Others Involved In The Delivery Of Nursing Care
EDM number 702 in 1999-00, proposed by Laura Moffatt on 09/05/2000.
That this House, in paying its respect to the profession of nursing on International Nursing Day, 12th May - the birthday of Florence Nightingale - acknowledges the very real pressures facing a profession whose members continue to provide the majority of care to all honourable Members' constituents at the most vulnerable times of their lives and without whom the NHS would cease to function; notes that at this time of great change in the provision of healthcare in this country, nursing staff, both trained nurses and untrained health care assistants are facing the challenge of equipping the NHS's workforce with the appropriate skills for delivering modern health services; and calls on the Government and the profession to encourage an holistic view when considering the regulation and training of all those involved in the delivery of those services.
