National Standards Of Asthma Care
EDM number 676 in 1999-00, proposed by Howard Stoate on 02/05/2000.
That this House welcomes World Asthma Day on 3rd May; notes that the National Asthma Campaign estimates that there are 3.4 million people with asthma in the United Kingdom, including one in seven children in every constituency, and that asthma is on the increase world-wide; believes that people with asthma have the right to expect equal access to the best possible asthma care without having to rely on the postcode lottery of care; believes that people with asthma deserve care to be delivered by experienced and trained health professionals according to nationally-agreed evidence-based guidelines; notes that expert patient management of their own asthma has the potential to save National Health Service resources as well as helping people with asthma take control of their own condition; and calls for NICE to evaluate and endorse the British Guidelines on Asthma Management as soon as practicable.
