Encouragement For Overseas Students To Study In The UK
EDM number 66 in 1999-00, proposed by Lorna Fitzsimons on 22/11/1999.
That this House believes that encouraging international students to study in the UK is good for UK exports, encourages understanding and interaction and builds up long-term links with people from across the world; welcomes the Prime Minister's initiative to promote UK education overseas and the co-operation across Government and with outside organisations to provide easier access to UK education for international students; believes that the branding of UK education being developed by the British Council will help professionalise the marketing of UK education overseas; welcomes the initiative to provide more Chevening scholarships for international students; and calls on business and education providers to work together with Government to market UK education in a way that will compete with other countries to attract international students.
