Sale Of Homes To Pay For Care
EDM number 604 in 1999-00, proposed by Paul Burstow on 05/04/2000.
That this House notes that the Prime Minister stated before the 1997 General Election that he did not want to live in a country where pensioners are forced to sell their homes to pay for their care; is concerned that over a year has passed since the Royal Commission on Long Term Care reported; regrets that many thousands of people have had to sell their homes; and calls on the Government to reform the funding of long-term care during the life of the current Parliament by making nursing and personal care free on the basis of accessed need.
