2001 Packaging Waste Recycling Targets
EDM number 599 in 1999-00, proposed by David Kidney on 04/04/2000.
That this House is concerned that the UK will fail to meet its 2001 recycling targets set under the European Packaging Directive; notes that there is a lack of investment in additional infrastructure for the collected and sorting of packaging waste; and urges that the environmental agencies' reviews of the compliance plans of obligated schemes and companies require them to demonstrate that they are investing in new collection and sorting schemes, such as a Pink Bag scheme, which can assist in reducing the amount of landfill material and help local authorities to achieve their recycling targets at no additional costs.
