Insurance Payments For Flood Victims
EDM number 594 in 1999-00, proposed by Colin Breed on 04/04/2000.
That this House notes with concern the delays experienced by the victims of last Christmas's flooding in receiving insurance payments for essential household items; further notes that there are many people in the worst affected areas, such as Cornwall, Devon and Somerset, who have either had insurance cover refused or cannot afford to pay the now elevated premiums for cover against future flood damage; and calls upon the insurance industry to ensure that all claims outstanding from last Christmas's floods are paid as a matter of urgency, and that the full cost to insurers is made known to the Environment Agency so that they can include it in their cost/benefits analysis for flood prevention schemes.
