Non-Proliferation Of Nuclear Weapons Treaty (Npt)
EDM number 566 in 1999-00, proposed by Jenny Jones on 28/03/2000.
That this House notes the importance of the forthcoming NPT Review Conference for the future of international arms controls and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons; views with concern that there are 36,000 nuclear weapons in operation world-wide; welcomes the Government's stated recognition that the NPT must remain the cornerstone of international efforts to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons; and calls upon the Government to do everything within its power to ensure that the NPT Review Conference agrees that the nuclear weapons states must remove their nuclear forces from continuous alert, adopt a policy of 'no first use' of nuclear weapons, and begin a programme of nuclear weapons reduction.
