Landmines In Pakistan
EDM number 546 in 1999-00, proposed by Peter L Pike on 16/03/2000.
That this House is deeply concerned at the impact of landmines on innocent civilians in Pakistan, where many such weapons are laid indiscriminately as a result of conflict in the region; notes with dismay a recent attempt by Pakistan ordnance factories to sell anti-personnel mines in the United Kingdom; believes that it is of the greatest importance for all states in the region to acceded to the Ottawa Convention on anti-personnel mines; and urges Her Majesty's Government to enter into discussions with Pakistan to encourage accession to the Convention without further delay; and to consider what aid might be made available to assist with demining and assistance for landmine victims.
