EDM number 496 in 1999-00, proposed by George Stevenson on 08/03/2000.

That this House condemns the continued occupation of Tibet and the current crackdown on dissent in Tibet and China and, recalling the uprisings of 10th March 1959 when thousands of Tibetans were killed by Chinese forces and the Dalai Lama was forced into exile, calls on the Government of the People's Republic of China to enter into negotiations without preconditions with the Tibetan Government in Exile; to respect the human rights of the Tibetan people; to end the use of torture, beatings and arbitrary detentions; and to release all political prisoners, including 10 year old Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, the 11th Panchen Lama.

This motion has been signed by a total of 62 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
