Smoke Detectors

EDM number 472 in 1999-00, proposed by Syd Rapson on 06/03/2000.

That this House is concerned that there is no requirement in new-build homes for smoke detectors to be fitted in bedrooms, especially as modern day uses of electronic equipment such as computers are often fitted into children's bedrooms and are left connected and live overnight; and calls on the Government to consider introducing legislation to ensure detection of fire at the earliest moment of combustion.
