ISRAEL'S NUCLEAR POLICY

EDM number 434 in 1999-00, proposed by Jeremy Corbyn on 28/02/2000.

That this House welcomes the recent historic debate in Israel in the Knesset on Israel's nuclear policy; notes that this was the first ever debate on the nuclear question in Israel; congratulates Issam Makhoul MK for his profound speech introducing the debate and thereby helping to remove the shroud of secrecy surrounding this important issue which marks a victory for democracy and the public's right to know about crucial nuclear policies carried out in its name; thanks Mr Makhoul for drawing attention to Mordechai Vanunu's part in bringing the facts of Israel's nuclear weapons programme to the attention of the world; notes that after nearly 14 years in prison for his brave and selfless act Vanunu is now eligible for parole; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to urge the Government of Israel to grant him immediate release from his imprisonment either through an act of clemency or parole.
