Care Homes

EDM number 424 in 1999-00, proposed by Brian Iddon on 21/02/2000.

That this House believes that national standards for care homes, as outlined in the Department of Health's consultation document, 'Fit for the Future', establishing a baseline below which no provider may operate, are vital to the elimination of current inconsistencies in the treatment of older people in such homes and that it is vital to ensure that the increasingly aged population will be treated with proper care, compassion, and respect; recognises that a portion of care homes may close because they cannot meet such standards, but notes that these standards set minimum requirements and are not new; and believes that to fail to implement such national standards is to continue to place older people in care homes in danger of abuse and neglect.

This motion has been signed by a total of 49 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
