That this House, while appreciating that both major parties have experienced difficulties and embarrassments in the selection of candidates, believes that the procedures adopted by New Labour will simply result in the voters seeking to select a mayor untainted by devious party practices or to abstain from voting; and expresses its particular concern at the voting practices of the AEEU Executive which is an insult to the democratic traditions of the trade union movement.
