Home Guard Auxiliary
EDM number 362 in 1999-00, proposed by Andrew Stunell on 08/02/2000.
That this House notes the courageous and vital service given by members of the Home Guard Auxiliary during the Second World War; regrets that those who were recruited in the last two years of the war had less than the minimum service required by regulation for the award of a war service medal; and therefore invites the Secretary of State for Defence to give such women, including Irene Mabon, now aged 105, of Hazel Grove, in Greater Manchester, an exceptional alternative award for their service, or to grant them a full war service medal, in recognition of the great contribution they made to the defence of freedom.
