Barclays Bank, Neyland
EDM number 30 in 1999-00, proposed by Jackie Lawrence on 17/11/1999.
That this House condemns the decision by Barclays Bank to close its branch in Neyland in Pembrokeshire, which will leave this community of around 4,000 people without a branch bank within the town; believes that Barclays have a responsibility to all their customers, and they should understand that for small retail businesses, the elderly, infirm and those without use of a private car, travelling to the nearest neighbouring town of Pembroke Dock, involving the cost of the Cleddau Bridge toll, to access banking facilities is not a realistic or convenient option; and calls upon the Government to seek ways to encourage commercial banking organisations to maintain local access to basic banking facilities.
This motion has been signed by a total of 44 MPs, 2 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
