Professional Care Workers

EDM number 28 in 1999-00, proposed by Derek Wyatt on 17/11/1999.

That this House welcomes the investigation currently being carried out by the East Kent Gazette into the shortcomings of regulations governing professional care workers; recognises that currently there are only limited opportunities for care home owners to identify previous misdemeanours of prospective employees; and calls on the Government to establish a national register for care workers and care assistants both to raise the standards of care provided and to prevent unsuitable individuals gaining access to, or continuing in, the profession.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs.
