Safety Of The Karmapa Lama

EDM number 246 in 1999-00, proposed by Tim Loughton on 11/01/2000.

That this House welcomes the safe arrival in Dharamsala of the Karmapa Lama, after his flight from Chinese-occupies Tibet; calls on the Government of India to grant him political asylum and take all necessary steps to ensure his safety; and further calls on the Chinese authorities to desist from their raids on the Tsurphu Monastery near Lhasa whence he came and their continued and wholly unacceptable persecution of the Tibetan people.

This motion has been signed by a total of 49 MPs.
