Future Energy Initiative
EDM number 199 in 1999-00, proposed by Andrew Stunell on 15/12/1999.
That this House welcomes the Energy Saving Trust's Future Energy Initiative, the first official accreditation scheme to promote energy from renewable sources; notes that under the scheme consumers will now be able to choose with confidence an environmental option for their electricity supply; further notes that this will result in reduced emissions of carbon dioxide; believes that the scheme could make a considerable contribution towards the DTI's target of 10 per cent. of electricity from renewables by 2010 and the UK's climate change commitments under the Kyoto Agreement; welcomes the Chancellor's recent commitment to exempt from the Climate Change Levy electricity generated from new renewable sources of energy and in good quality combined heat and power plant; and encourages the Government to ensure that as many consumers as possible have the opportunity to purchase renewable energy.
