WOMEN'S ROYAL VOLUNTARY SERVICE'S SUPPORT FOR OLDER VOLUNTEERS
EDM number 132 in 1999-00, proposed by Claire Curtis-Thomas on 02/12/1999.
That this House congratulates the Women's Royal Voluntary Service, in the United Nation's Year of Older People, on its contribution to exciting new volunteering activities for older people and on its support for older volunteers, particularly during Senior Volunteers Week; acknowledges that, since 1938, this charity has been the largest volunteering organisation in Britain, working in community, hospital, food and emergency services; notes that the charity seeks partnerships with funders, local emergency services, local authorities, NHS trusts and other charities to ensure future success; acknowledges that WRVS relies on volunteers to provide all of its services to communities across England and Wales in villages, towns and cities and to raise funds in order to finance its activities; and wishes all concerned continuing success with its caring work and partnership building which touch the lives of millions of people across the country every year.
