Crown Woods Comprehensive School
EDM number 1191 in 1999-00, proposed by Clive Efford on 28/11/2000.
That this House congratulates Crown Woods comprehensive school in Greenwich on its successful legal action which resulted in an agreement being reached to quash the decision of Ofsted to place the school in special measures; notes that Ofsted has agreed to pay the reasonable costs of the governing body and the council; is concerned that the decision to place Crown Woods in special measures was taken by Her Majesty's inspectors of schools after inspecting less than 3 per cent. of the lessons taught in a week; considers that the application of section 3 powers in this way is unreasonable; calls for a review of the use of such powers; and further calls on the new appointment of Her Majesty's Inspector of Schools for England to set out clear guidelines for the inspection of schools under section 3 to ensure that there is a consistent approach so that schools can have confidence in the procedure in the future.
