Fuel And Vehicle Excise Duty
EDM number 1117 in 1999-00, proposed by Roy Beggs on 02/11/2000.
That this House is concerned that the United Kingdom haulage industry is being undermined by excessive costs as a consequence of high vehicle excise duty and the escalating fuel costs which affect almost every household in the United Kingdom and most seriously farmers and rural dwellers; and calls on the Chancellor of the Exchequer to take measures to lessen the impact of high fuel costs on the economic well-being of the United Kingdom and its people, and to promote fair competition and to discourage the illegal transportation of fuel across national boundaries.
