Jason Queally And Jeanette Brakewell
EDM number 1073 in 1999-00, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 23/10/2000.
That this House congratulates Jason Queally, the first British athlete at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games to win a gold medal, setting a personal best time in the 1km time trial cycling event, then moving on to gain a silver medal in the team race, and Jeanette Brakewell for winning a silver medal in the equestrian team event; notes that both athletes are from Chorley and that the medals won set in train the excellent performance in the Sydney 2000 Games, in which Britain achieved its best medal tally since the 1920 Olympics; and pays tribute to the British athletes in the Paralympics.
