UK'S LOST RAILWAY HERITAGE

EDM number 1043 in 1999-00, proposed by Derek Foster on 26/07/2000.

That this House supports the Northern Echo's campaign, Our Lost Railway Heritage, launched on 26th July, which aims to ensure that the Stockton and Darlington Railway, the world's first steam-powered passenger railway, celebrating its 175th anniversary this September, is properly commemorated for future generations, that its crucial role in Great Britain's Industrial Revolution and the North East's development is not forgotten, and that the railway revolution, one of the North East's gifts development is not forgotten, and that the railway revolution, one of the North East's gifts to the rest of the world, is fully acknowledged and celebrated for decades to come.
