Nuclear And Renewable Energies
EDM number 1018 in 1999-00, proposed by Paul Flynn on 25/07/2000.
That this House deplores the decision to agree to pay Japan ú40 million as a sweetener to apologise for the fact that British Nuclear Fuels sent Kansai Electric plutonium mox fuel with falsified safety paperwork; notes with concern the total cost of the return of the discredited mox fuel to Sellafield is likely to be in excess of ú100 million; believes the agreement to provide Kansai Electric with alternative subsidised mox fuel is contrary to EU rules on state aid; contrasts the enormous subsidies to the plutonium fuel industry with the total annual research, demonstration and development investment into renewable energy of ú31 million; and calls upon the Government to halt all further support for plutonium fuel production in the United Kingdom in favour of a robust support for renewable energies.
This motion has been signed by a total of 25 MPs.
