Payment To Clive Uren

EDM number 924 in 1998-99, proposed by Norman Baker on 20/10/1999.

That this House notes with disbelief that Clive Uren, who was forced to resign in disgrace from the post of Chief Executive following the publication of the NHS report into Eastbourne District General Hospital, a report which paid tribute to the doctors, nurses and other staff at the hospital but which identified numerous failures of top management, and heavily criticised them as arrogant and autocratic, is to be offered light duties on full pay for a further six months and is then to be given a ú76,000 pay-off, enough to pay for four nurses for a year; regards this pay-off as an insult to staff and patients alike at the District General Hospital and calls on this payment to be revoked and for future NHS contracts for top management to be written to prevent failure from being rewarded.

This motion has been signed by a total of 4 MPs.
