Flooding Of Capel Celyn

EDM number 912 in 1998-99, proposed by Ron Davies on 19/10/1999.

That this House recalls the flooding of the Welsh village of Capel Celyn in 1957 by Liverpool Corporation to provide water for its own development; commends the 35 of the then 36 Welsh honourable Members who unsuccessfully opposed the flooding, thereby demonstrating the need for Wales to have its own national voice; and supports the campaign by Cofeb Tryweryn to establish a permanent national monument on the shores of Llyn Tryweryn to commemorate this signficant moment in Welsh history.

This motion has been signed by a total of 10 MPs.
