World Travel Market
EDM number 910 in 1998-99, proposed by Jeremy Corbyn on 19/10/1999.
That this House notes that Burma and Indonesia are to exhibit at this year's World Travel Market in November; deplores the human rights violations in these countries; notes the links between tourism and human rights abuses; commends the British Guild of Travel Writers for urging its members not to legitimise and support Indonesia's repressive regime by promoting tourism; also commends those United Kingdom tour operators who have heeded Aung San Suu Kyi's call not to operate in Burma; and calls on the World Travel Market to stop the promotion of tourism in Burma and Indonesia.
