Release Of Political Prisoners In Bahrain

EDM number 892 in 1998-99, proposed by Lawrence Cunliffe on 27/07/1999.

That this House congratulates the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Isa for his humane and courageous action in pardoning more than 300 political prisoners, including Sheikh Jamri, as an act of goodwill intended to mark the development, stability and prosperity of the country and people of Bahrain achieved during the office of the late Emir Sheikh Isa bin Sulman al-Khalifa; and wishes the new Emir and his Government success in maintaining its steady progress towards a successful modern state based on human rights and the rule of law.
