That this House, in recognition of the service and sacrifice of British seafarers in defence of the United Kingdom and the contribution to national prosperity made in peace time by merchant seamen, urges Her Majesty's Government to harness the enthusiasm and talents of the Deputy Prime Minister and Lord Sterling of Plaistow, Executive Chairman of Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company to achieve the provision of a fitting statue of a British seafarers on the empty plinth in Trafalgar Square.
