That this House welcomes the call by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan to the international business community to 'give a human face to the global market'; further welcomes the recent statement by the International Chamber of Commerce that the agencies of the United Nations should have a greater role in establishing rules for international trade and the specific endorsement by the ICC of a greater role for the International Labour Organisation; notes the continuing debate about the suitability of the World Trade Organisation as a forum for determining social and environmental policy; and urges the Government to argue for greater involvement of the agencies of the United Nations in all future negotiations on trade and investment.
