Conduct Of The Honourable Member For The Wrekin

EDM number 871 in 1998-99, proposed by Tim Loughton on 22/07/1999.

That this House notes that the honourable Member for The Wrekin, when a member of Westminster City Council's Planning Committee and while simultaneously acting as a consultant for the Safeway supermarket chain, objected to a planning brief by the Waitrose supermarket chain to build a supermarket, and that Safeway owned a supermarket near to the site; also notes the failure of the honourable Member for The Wrekin to declare his interests in Safeway during the course of that planning application; further notes the honourable Member for The Wrekin's comments on Lord Neill, when he was acting for Dame Shirley Porter, 'He may think that conflicts of interest do not arise; that is not how the rest of the world see it. It is crucial that he is not only above reproach but is seen to be above reproach'; and believes that the honourable Member for The Wrekin should heed his own words and look to his own record in public life before making unfounded allegations about the business affairs of a private individual, under the cloak of Parliamentary privilege.

This motion has been signed by a total of 11 MPs.
