Cyprus (No. 2)
EDM number 835 in 1998-99, proposed by John D Taylor on 15/07/1999.
That this House considers that peace and security are vital to the well-being of the Turkish Cypriots and the Greek Cypriots; congratulates the Turkish peace-keeping force for putting an end to fighting among the Greek Cypriots and ethnic cleansing of the Turkish Cypriots 25 years ago this month, and providing a safe haven for the Turkish Cypriots ever since, both of which the United Nations force had been unable to accomplish; is concerned that an overall settlement has been obstructed by the precondition that the Greek Cypriot administration is the Government of all Cyprus, which it is not; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government and the United Nations to remove that precondition and treat the governments elected by both the peoples of Cyprus on a basis of equality.
This motion has been signed by a total of 9 MPs.
