Incontinence
EDM number 815 in 1998-99, proposed by Paul Burstow on 13/07/1999.
That this House notes that several million people in the United Kingdom suffer problems of bladder and bowel control; deplores the irrational stigma still attached to incontinence that results in many people believing it to be incurable and deters them from seeking medical assistance; is therefore disturbed by the actions of (a) the Sunday Times in refusing to publish on 4th July a public education display advertisement urging people to seek help for the condition and (b) Carlton Television in dropping from Staying Alive, a forthcoming series on the problems of growing old, a section on incontinence on which work had already been completed with considerable assistance from the NHS, relevant charities and affected individuals; and calls on the Sunday Times and Carlton Television to reverse their decisions forthwith.
This motion has been signed by a total of 79 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
