CHEMISTRY FOR HEALTH: THE ROYAL SOCIETY OF CHEMISTRY'S PARLIAMENTARY LINKS DAY 1999

EDM number 738 in 1998-99, proposed by Michael Clark on 18/06/1999.

That this House congratulates the Royal Society of Chemistry on holding its Parliamentary Links Day at the House on Tuesday 22nd June and on its continuing commitment to serve the public interest by seeking to improve the access of Members of Parliament to scientific information and to their understanding of science; notes that the Society's pioneering Parliamentary Link Scheme, which provides information and briefing on chemistry-related scientific subjects, is open to Right honourable and honourable Members on all sides of the House; further notes the extensive educational activity of the Society to promote high quality chemistry teaching and education at all educational levels; applauds the Society's recent publication of the educational resource The Age of the Molecule which is being distributed to all schools, colleges and universities throughout the UK; welcomes the crucial link between the core science of chemistry and the United Kingdom's scientific research base; and notes that this year's Parliamentary Links Day is on the timely theme of Chemistry for Health which highlights the central role that chemistry plays to underpin, support and promote health.
