Start Of The Millennium

EDM number 708 in 1998-99, proposed by Vincent Cable on 09/06/1999.

That this House recognises that the Millennium will begin in Teddington, Middlesex when the atomic clocks at the National Physical Laboratory complete their countdown and transmit a Millennium signal based on Co-ordinated Universal Time; applauds the achievements of the 700 staff of the laboratory in making it a world class centre for metrology and applied physics of great service to the Government and United Kingdom industry; and acknowledges the central importance of continued Department of Trade and Industry funding, including for a state of the art laboratory.
