Fuel Tax Escalator And People With Disabilities

EDM number 706 in 1998-99, proposed by Paul Stinchcombe on 09/06/1999.

That this House welcomes the fuel tax escalator as an environmental measure; believes that significant reductions in the use of fuel are essential if the United Kingdom is to achieve its carbon dioxide emissions reduction targets; notes that the fuel tax escalator ensures that the polluter pays; is concerned, however, that expensive fuel has a particularly severe impact on people with disabilities, who are often heavily reliant on car travel; and urges the Government to consider implementing an essential user rebate for this group of car users.

This motion has been signed by a total of 22 MPs.
