Tenth Anniversary Of Tiananmen Square Massacre

EDM number 692 in 1998-99, proposed by Jeremy Corbyn on 26/05/1999.

That this House notes that 4th June marks the 10th anniversary of the 1989 brutal suppression of peaceful human rights and pro-democracy activists in Tiananmen Square in Beijing in which thousands died or were wounded; notes also that over the last 10 years the Chinese authorities have instigated no official investigation or parliamentary or public inquiry into the events of that day; and therefore urges Her Majesty's Government to press the Government in China to set up an independent parliamentary committee to investigate the bloody events of 4th June 1989 so that the victims and their families and those who remain in prison as a consequence are at last given the full facts surrounding the tragic events of that day.

This motion has been signed by a total of 17 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
